HOW IT WORKS
If you’ve ever watched or played tennis or squash you will have an idea of how Rally Clays works.
There are seven targets in front of two shooting positions.
On a coin toss one shooter chooses a side and the other shooter chooses to either shoot first or second.
The shooter with the honour of shooting first calls pull and target 1 is thrown. You have full use of the gun at this target (two shots only in the gun please semi-auto users).
If you break it, target 2 is immediately thrown for the other shooter also having full use.
If they break it, target 3 is immediately thrown for you and back and forth and so on until you get to target 7.
Target 7 is thrown twice (so you are not always shooting the same birds in the point) and then you go back and forth back down the targets in sequence (6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 - target 1 is also thrown twice, like 7, and back up through the targets again).
As soon as someone misses a clay, they lose the point.
If you run out of cartridges, you lose the point.
Match winner is most points after 30, 50, 70 or 100 targets (agreed between both players at the outset).
How ‘Rally Clays’ works

HOW THEY ARE CALCULATED
The winner of the longest match(es) in terms of targets broken (not time!) wins the pool or group.
We use the average number of targets in the points of the match. The winner gets that number multiplied by 1.1. If you lose a long match it will still give you a a good ranking score but not as high as the winner.
For example:
In “The Battle of the Olympic Gold Medallists” at the Game Fair 2026
Nathan Hales defeated Richard Faulds
The score was 4 - 1
The match lasted 127 targets (true story and a great match)
127 targets ÷ 5 points in total (4+1) = 25.4 average point length
Richards got 25.4 points
Nathan, the winner, got 27.94 points (25.4 X 1.1)

If you get thrashed by your son 6 - 0 (also a true story from the Game Fair ‘26) but give a good account of yourself to make it an 82 target match, even though you lose, you still get 13.66 ranking points.
